AACHEN, GERMANY
30 German Kings
18.05.2020
Aachen , Germany is in North Rhine -Westphalia, a border city and Spa. It is close to the borders with Belgium and Holland.
I have stayed here twice as a stopover, but it is more than that. The centre is compact ,and was a Roman settlement. The Roman Catholic Cathedral was the place of Coronations of 30 German Kings. It is said to be the oldest cathedral in northern Europe. The cathedral is in the city centre near the Rathaus { Town Hall } The city was a walled city with 11 gates, today only 2 left. One of these gates is not far the rail station.
The gate is Marschiertor meaning Marching Gate, near here is a bronze statue of a soldier caring a piece of wood. Aachen as a busy rail station, well connected. =https://photos.travellerspoint.com/935071/e2b8aaa0-98e4-11ea-a996-299759a1c334.jpg caption=AACHEN GERMANY.]
